Bringing our depth and breadth of experience of international repatriation under one brand, we’re delighted to launch Purves Repatriation, a sub-brand of our William Purves Funeral Directors family.

For decades, our Edinburgh-based team has overseen successful repatriation from the UK as well as returning British Nationals who have died overseas.

We have seen demand rise steadily over the last decade, with an average of one international-related request per week recorded over 2023-24.

Purves Repatriation has been established to meet the growing need for a specialist service that follows a rigorous administrative procedure required for the transportation of someone who has died abroad, with the compassion, respect and sensitivity of a funeral director.

Recent high-profile cases have brought public attention to the complexities surrounding repatriation from overseas. Coupled with increasingly itinerant lifestyles, international repatriation is an increasingly common practice worldwide.

Purves Repatriation offers the experience and resources to provide premium care as well as practical support to families. A key part of the service our team offers is handling all aspects of the repatriation, including the necessary documentation, communicating with third parties, and arranging onward transportation of the deceased and their family where necessary.

Colin Brown, Head of Purves Repatriation said: “Our specialist team have been trusted to carry out repatriation services for years, supporting families whose loved ones have died overseas.

We understand what a challenging and confusing time this can be and are uniquely positioned to support grieving families.

With first class facilities, we can care for those who have died with dignity, especially over extended periods of time as arrangements are finalised. During this time, our team can support families who may want to stay near their loved one and/or travel with them.

For some, they may simply want to organise a local funeral – which we can arrange – and repatriate ashes. Whatever choices they make, we’re here to help get their loved ones safely home.”

Purves Repatriation will be one of the few funeral directors in Scotland to offer a separate repatriation service.

Working with corporate partners in Insurance, Repatriation, Consuls or other UK Funeral Directors, the team navigate the complexities of bringing people home to their families from, and to, the UK.
